Model High FBLA Hosts Club Day at the Fair
Model High School (MHS) FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Chapter 434 usually travels to Perry, GA along with other chapters from around the state, for the FBLA State Rally and Fair. This year, the rally falls during Floyd County Schools’ Fall Break, so Model High FBLA decided to host their own rally, including a trip to our local Coosa Valley Fair on Wednesday, October 3. After checking around the region, they found several schools in the same predicament. As a result, Armuchee, Pepperell, Calhoun, Trion City, Sonoraville, and Gordon County Central High Schools' FBLA chapters all converged with MHS for Club Day at the Coosa Valley Fair. Also attending were Pepperell High School FFA (Future Farmers of America), MHS FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), MHS Key Club, and MHS NHS (National Honor Society). In all, over three-hundred and twenty-five area students attended the assembly and trip to the fair.
Before heading to the fair, students had the opportunity to visit with representatives from Dalton State College, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Highlands College, Reinhardt University, and Shorter University. Representatives from these institutions also addressed the crowd, sharing valuable information about various educational funding and program opportunities. The assembly also included a video of past year club activities put together by Michelle Arp of Armuchee High School which included content contributed by all of the attending schools. Brian Crick of Pepperell High School, led the students in some fun-filled, energizing activities before introducing our special guest speaker, Kent Howard, who spoke on the topic “Lead like a Shepherd.”
Following the assembly, students enjoyed a lunch arranged in tandem by David Mowery of Pepperell High School, Floyd County Schools Food Service Director, Donna Carver, and Model Cafeteria Manager, Jan Dake. Shortly after lunch, students boarded buses and headed over for a fun day at the Coosa Valley Fair. Barbara Carter, President of the Coosa Valley Fair Association, and the folks at the fair, did a fabulous job in accommodating and welcoming our students to the fair.
Bill Hosmer, Business Department Chair at MHS and organizer of the event, states, “It really was a team effort. Everyone pitched in to make the event a success. The Coosa Valley Fair folks worked overtime to make it easy for us to attend, even opening the fair early for us.” Hosmer continues, “Overall, I’d call it a Win, Win. Our students received some outstanding tips from successful business leaders while not missing out on some fun at the fair, and we all get to enjoy an uninterrupted Fall Break in beautiful Northwest Georgia.”
