ROME, Ga. – Pepperell High School (PHS) and Floyd County Schools (FCS) announced Zach Thompson as the head boys varsity basketball coach for the Dragons.

A native of Rockmart, Georgia, Thompson returns to Lindale after serving on the PHS teaching and coaching staff from 2019-21.

“PHS is so excited about bringing Coach Zach Thompson into Dragon Country,” said PHS principal Jason Kouns. “As a former teacher and coach here at PHS, Coach Thompson is already familiar with our campus and our athletes, which should enable him to immediately hit the ground running.  We are looking forward to his energy, and we certainly believe he will create a culture that all want to experience in the Dragon's Lair.”

Coach Thompson currently serves as a teacher at LaFayette Middle School and recently as a coach in Dawson County.

In high school, Thompson played multiple sports for Rockmart High School and was a member of the University of Georgia’s basketball practice squad in college.

Coach Thompson is certified in History, Health/PE, and Special Education, and he will be an inclusion teacher at PHS for the upcoming school year.
