Model High School celebrates new artificial turf field

Ribbon Cutting
Dr. Glenn White, Floyd County Schools Superintendent, and former MHS principal, and Board Chair, Dr. Melinda Strickland, are surrounded by students and school officials as Dr. White cuts the ribbon on the school’s new artificial turf.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the new ESPLOST funded Woodard-Tuggle Stadium project at Model High School (MHS.)  Turf installation for the project began in June 2023. The sports grade artificial turf is equipped with "chill-fill" technology designed to keep the playing field cool and prevent the turf from getting too hot. In the coming weeks, the 6-lane “Blue Devil" polyurethane track surface surrounding the field will be completed. It will be designed for longevity, safety and performance.

Among the programs that will benefit from these upgrades are MHS football, soccer, track & field, band and middle school football, as well as PE and weightlifting classes. MHS would like to say “thank you” to our Floyd County School board and to the taxpayers of Floyd County for the new ESPLOST funded upgrades at Woodard-Tuggle stadium.
