    Dear Johnson Elementary Families,

My name is Tanya Welchel, and I am so excited to introduce myself as the principal of Johnson Elementary School. I am honored to be the principal of a school that is known far and wide for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to children. Over the past 28 years, I have worked as a teacher and administrator, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. I will spend time with your children getting to know their personalities and interests. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community.

Not only am I excited to work with your children in my role, but I look forward to the work we will do together. I cannot wait to share with you the great things they do throughout their days here at Johnson Elementary. Of course, I will also be here to work with you should they need any help navigating any aspect of the school day.

Johnson Elementary School:  Over 65 staff and faculty, 500 students, 1090 parents, and 1 focus:  To Be Great. What does greatness mean? Greatness is neither a destination, nor a moment in time, but it is a journey towards a consistent pattern of behavior that results in constant progress and achievement.

My goal is to ensure that JES is Great and all children are healthy, happy, and safe.  This allows them to learn as much as possible. This has been my philosophy since I began my career teaching at Johnson in 1994.  I have taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and fifth grade as well as served as assistant principal. Please know that I will work tirelessly to ensure all of our children have the best possible experiences while at Johnson Elementary. Once again, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to continue my experience with our wonderful JES community.

    Be Great!

    Tanya Welchel
