AMS Announcements

As many of you already know, Verizon will no longer support the use of Remind text messaging beginning 1/28/19. While this may seem like a major problem for school systems that currently use that service, Floyd County Schools has a plan in place with minimal interruption for teachers, coaches, parents, and students.

Floyd County Schools will be switching to Blackboard Teacher Communications (BbComm) as an easy way of communicating with parents and students via phone, text, and email! By using BbComm, administrators, teachers and coaches can write a message once, select preferred communication methods and publish across desired channels—saving time, creating consistency, and building capacity.

AMS parents/guardians' phone numbers will automatically be uploaded to BbComm through PowerSchool.  AMS students will receive a Google Form in their FCS gmail to collect their phone numbers. This will be particularly important for students that participate in extra-curricular activities and need to receive messages from a coach/sponsor.  AMS plans to go live with this platform by 1/25.

    How this differs from Remind:

    • Parents/guardians do not self-subscribe, they are already set up in the system with PowerSchool data

    • Teachers/admin/coaches can send phone calls, texts, and/or emails

    • BbComm text messages are only one way, so parents/students cannot respond to school text messages.
