What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer to improve your web-browsing experience. Further explanation of the purpose and use of cookies can be found at these locations:

The process of enabling cookies for your browser depends upon what type of web-browser you are using. If you are uncertain which browser you are using, select Help -> About... from the menu.

If you're using Internet Explorer 6.0
From the Menu bar:

  • Choose Tools, then
  • Internet Options.
  • Click the Privacy tab,
  • Here you can set the automatic cookie handling settings. The default setting is medium, which will allow you to accept cookies. To change this setting, move the slider to determine which setting you prefer. Click apply or ok to set your preference.
  • Click the Advanced button if you want to override the automatic cookie handling settings. This opens up the Advanced Privacy Settings window where you can specify the settings separately for first party and third party cookies.
  • You can use the Edit button if you want to specify the settings separately for individual sites. This button is not available for the Block all cookies and Accept all cookies automatic settings.


Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0

On a PC:

  • Select Tools -> Internet Options and click on the "Security" tab.
  • Here you can specify the automatic cookie handling settings. The default selection, "Medium", supports cookies, but you can click on the "Custom Level" button to specify your own preferences. Scroll down until you see the word "Cookies" and verify that the radio button next to "Enable" is selected in both options.
  • You can specify these settings separately for the internet, intranet, trusted sites and restricted sites. You can add a site to trusted or restricted category by selecting the appropriate icon and clicking the sites button.

On a Mac:

  • Select Edit -> Preferences.
  • Scroll down until you see "Cookies" under Receiving Files. Make sure that "Never Ask" is selected.


Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (and 4.5 Macintosh)

On a PC:

  • Select View -> Internet Options and click on the "Advanced" tab.
  • Scroll down until you see the word "Cookies" and verify that the circle next to "Always accept cookies" is selected.

On a Macintosh:

  • Select Edit -> Preferences
  • Scroll down until you see "Cookies" under Receiving Files. Make sure that "Never Ask" is selected.

 

If you're using Netscape Navigator 7.0
In the menu bar, click:

  • Edit, then
  • Preferences, then
  • click on Privacy and Security.
  • Then Cookies, and
  • Select Enable.

If you're using Netscape Communicator 6.0
At the top of your browser on the menu Bar, click:

  • Edit, then
  • Preferences, then
  • click on Privacy and Security.
  • Then Cookies, and
  • Select Enable

Netscape Communicator 4.0

  • Choose Edit -> Preferences and click on the "Advanced" option.
  • Select the radio button next to "Accept all cookies" and click "OK".
