The addition of technology in the classroom has allowed Floyd County Schools to have small community high schools and still offer students unequalled access to accelerated courses, multiple foreign languages, and advanced placement courses. Floyd County was the first school system in Georgia to equip high schools and middle schools with distance learning labs that allow one teacher to teach students in all four of our high schools or middle schools at the same time.In the past, many advanced classes could not be offered because only a few students wished to take the class. Now with the Distance Learning Labs, those advanced courses have enough for a full class when all of the students in the four high schools or middle schools are combined.
Fiber optic connections between schools link teachers and students through the use of video cameras and television monitors. This has also been a major boost to foreign language offerings at each high school and middle school. In the past, a small high school usually offered only one foreign language. Now, students can select from Spanish, French, German or Latin. Middle school students are also getting the opportunity to experience foreign language options never before available. Students get the course offerings usually found only at large schools while enjoying the personal attention of a small school setting.
