  1. Do Elementary/Primary schools offer Pre-K classes?
    Yes, most of the Elementary/Primary schools offer Pre-K classes if they support the beginning grade levels. Pre-K sites and the number of classes at each school are: Alto Park Elementary (1 class), Cave Spring Elementary (2 classes), Garden Lakes Elementary (1 class), Glenwood Primary (3 classes), Johnson Elementary (2 classes), McHenry Primary (2 classes), Midway Primary (2 classes), Model Elementary (2 classes), and Pepperell Primary (2 classes).

  2. What are the costs of meals at the schools? (students & visitors)
    Parents and adults in the community are invited to eat with their children in the school cafeteria. Menus and prices are posted on the school system web site in the "Nutritional Program" section .

  3. Are your schools accredited?
    All Floyd County Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Continued accreditation involves periodic reevaluation by committees of outside educators as well as self-study by the principal and school staff.

  4. When are report cards sent home?
    All students (grades 1-12) receive report cards every nine weeks.

  5. What grading system do you use?
    Kindergarten students are evaluated during the year to determine their readiness for first grade. All other grades use the following grading system:
      A = 90-100
      B = 80-89
      C = 71-79
      D = 70
      F = 69.9 and below

  6. How do I know which school my child will attend?
    You can use the District Search program, sponsored by The Greater Rome Board of Realtors.

  7. What bus will my child ride school?
    Bus transportation is provided for students who live in the district of the school they attend.

  8. At what age will my child start school?
    To enter a Georgia pre-kindergarten program, eligible* students must be four by September 1st. To enter a Georgia public kindergarten, students must be five by September 1, and to enter first grade, students must be six by that date. (*Please call the Pre-K program at 706.234.1031 ext. 7160 for eligibility requirements.)

  9. What information must I provide to register my child in school for the first time?
    Parents are to present the following documents:
    • An official birth certificate
    • verification of address (utility statement, rent receipt or lease document, telephone statement, bill of sale for house or statement of loan)
    • requested to present an official copy of their social security number
    • must have proof of immunization against eight diseases -- measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus (DPT), polio and chicken pox. Children born after 1992 are required to have a HEP B injection. Students entering the sixth grade are required to get a second dose of the MMR vaccine and are required to prove they are immune to chicken pox. Students entering ninth grade must have an adult tetanus shot for their immunization record to be up to date.
    • Georgia law also requires students to have eye, ear and dental examinations. Health certificates are available from physicians or from the Floyd County Health Department.

  10. What can I do if my child must be out of school for an extended amount of time?
    Upon meeting the requirements, students may eligible for the Hospital/Homebound Program.  Go view the standard requirements and contact information.

  11. Who should I call if I have a question?
    Questions about procedures or activities at a school are best answered by calling the school. Telephone numbers for all schools, departments, and administrative offices are listed in "Contact Us" and the school information section of the web site. You can also get school listings in the Floyd County Schools section of the BellSouth telephone directory. For general information, call the Board of Education Office at 706.234.1031.
