Question 1:

What pathways / areas of focus will the charter school have? Will there be an Agriculture / Agribusiness path?

Answer:
We currently have a program dealing with agriculture at Floyd County Technical High and I would think that a program of study would be offered at the new charter school.  The Horticulture program has been successful for a number of years. It is certainly important that you and those interested in the field of agri-business participate in the current “Needs Assessment” that is being conducted by the Charter Committee.  The “Needs Assessment” will determine the needs of the community as it relates to the job market for the future and thus help determine the programs of study available at the Floyd County College and Career Academy. Please go to the “Needs Assessment Survey” on this website and complete the questionnaire and invite your contacts in the agri-business field to do this as well.  This will make sure that we have the interest of the agriculture community available in our final data.

Question 2:

Will children with an IEP be able to attend the Charter School? My son has Mild Asperger's Syndrome and is very talented in the area of Art. He would greatly benefit from a Charter School environment to better prepare him for a Technical School secondary education.

Answer:
Students with IEP’s will be eligible to attend the charter school just as they would any Floyd County school.  The question of actual attendance will be determined by courses or programs offered that fit with a child’s plan and the recommendation of those in charge of reviewing the student’s IEP.

Question 3:

Will students from Rome High School be eligible to attend this new College and Career Academy?

Answer:
Rome City Schools is not a partner in the College and Career Academy at this time.  The charter school will require that some academic classes be taken at another high school (a student’s home high school) and would require that the home school accept the College and Career Academy course work for credit toward graduation.  Unfortunately, since Rome City is not a partner they would not accept credits from the charter school toward meeting your child’s graduation requirements.
