Criteria for Honoring Personnel
Employee Recognition Form Send to Jennifer Peppers or Tim Hensley,
by courier or attach in an email.

Listed below are the criteria to be used in honoring personnel at Floyd County Board of Education meetings:

  1. All employee recognitions should be processed initially through the local school and be endorsed by the principal.
  2. School principals will submit employee names to the Community Relations Office at lease one week prior to the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education. An employee recognition form should be completed for each employee to be recognized.
  3. Only those accomplishments achieved at district, state, or higher levels will be recognized by the board. Achievements at the school level will continue to be recognized by the local school. (The board will continue to recognize individual school “Teachers of the Year” as part of the system “Teacher of the Year” recognition held at the October board meeting.)
  4. Notification to employees should not be made until the award time and date are confirmed.
  5. Employees who have received professional accreditation from a professional association (not including advanced degrees, Masters, Education Specialist, etc.) would be eligible for recognition by the board.
  6. Employees elected to state or national level offices of educational organizations should be recommended for board recognition.
  7. In situations which may involve unique conditions not covered by these guidelines, the final decision regarding an award will be made by the superintendent and the local school principal.
  8. The local school principals will be responsible for inviting the recipient and others who have made significant contributions to the employee or group being recognized to attend the board meeting.
  9. After an employee or group has been submitted for recognition, the school principal will be notified by Thursday of the week preceding the regular monthly board meeting if the presentation will be made. The principal will subsequently notify the recipients by Friday before the board meeting which will be held the following week. Notification to employees should not be made until the award time and date are confirmed.
  10. The instrument used in making recognitions will normally be a Certificate of Achievement with appropriate signatures. In some instances where an organization or institution provides its own appropriate instrument of recognition, such as a plaque or trophy, these will also be presented along with the Certificate of Achievement.
  11. Employee accomplishments made in activities outside the jurisdiction of the Floyd County Schools will normally not be recognized by the board. Examples would include community, recreation, church activities, etc. The committee as referenced in (7) above would consider exceptions to this procedure.

The implementation of this employee recognition procedure by the Floyd County Board of Education is not intended to duplicate or supplant the awards/honors programs which are provided by the local schools or the Board of Education Distinguished Service Award. The intent is to afford appropriate recognition to deserving employees.

The criteria for employee recognition will be reviewed and revised as need to provide the highest level of effectiveness.
