Floyd County is nestled in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, with the City of Rome as its county seat. Our home is one of scenic beauty with miles of stately forests, picturesque lakes, and of course, our rivers. Rome is built around three rivers. The Etowah and Oostanaula join in the heart of the city to form the mighty Coosa. Rome is a city with a proud heritage. We look with pride to our many historic landmarks which provide a link to our forefather's pioneering spirit.

Rome is also a modern city with a good selection of recreational and cultural activities. Rome boasts the oldest symphony orchestra in the south, the Rome Area Council for the Arts, an active little theatre group, several museums, a new modern public library, and fine arts exhibits. According to a 1990 Rand-McNally Guide, Rome was rated among some 219 "micropolitan" cities as the 16th most livable in the national and our community was also recognized by a national tennis publication as one of the top ten tennis communities in America. If you love the excitement of big city entertainment and professional sporting events, then Atlanta is just 65 miles away. Rome is centrally located between three metropolitan cities, Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Birmingham. However, you don't have to leave Rome to enjoy all the features of a big city. From art lovers to sports lovers, Rome offers a complete package of fun all in one place.
