Daniel Lovell, a 2016 graduate of Pepperell High School, has been appointed to the US Naval Academy for the Class of 2021. Lovell received two nominations to the Naval Academy this past year.  He was nominated by Senator David Perdue and Congressman Tom Graves. He was also nominated to West Point by Congressman Graves.

After graduating from Pepperell last May, Lovell attended the University of North Georgia and participated in the university’s cadet program while awaiting an appointment to the Naval Academy.

Lovell was a highly decorated student for academic achievement while at Pepperell High.  He was the school’s STAR student in 2016 and was selected as the Floyd County STAR student. He led the PHS team to consecutive victories in the Floyd County Academic Decathlon and was the highest scoring individual student in the competitions. He was a nominee to Governor’s Honors, named an AP Scholar with Honors, and was a National Merit commended student.

The academically talented student was also active in the community during high school.  Lovell developed a youth outreach program to teach mechanical and robotic programming through Silver Creek Presbyterian Church.  He also used his computer skills to develop a computer application for the training of Emergency Medical Technicians.  The training application generates random emergency medical situations called Dynamic Emergency Technician Simulation or DETS.  Lovell’s interest in medicine led him to serve as the chief student aid in the Pepperell High athletic training program where he worked with the school’s athletic trainer.

Lovell continues to have an interest in a medical career but he has selected Cyber Operations, a new major available at the Naval Academy, as his initial focus.  Cyber Operations at the academy covers the broad scope of cyberspace operations including computer architecture, programming, data structures, networks, the internet, database systems, information assurance, cryptography, and forensics.
