The Johnson Elementary cafeteria ladies affectionately known as the JES lunch moms have won the Johnson and Krispy Kreme "Have a Sweet Day" award for May.

Children at Johnson Elementary are helping Krispy Kreme honor area volunteers and make sure they have a sweet day.  Fourth-grade children at Johnson search for community volunteers making a difference and select a group to receive free donuts from Krispy Kreme each month.

The fourth-grade group at Johnson designate a deserving service organization from the Rome area each month and present the selected group with a dozen donuts from the Krispy Kreme location in Rome.  The students then recognize the group, present them with the donuts and post a written explanation of why the group was selected on a blog on the Krispy Kreme website.

In their selection post for the JES lunch moms, the group wrote, "These ladies not only prepare the basic meals for children at Johnson but also decorate, make special foods, provide surprises for holidays and treat each meal like a mom would at home."  The ladies were also recognized for providing more than great food. "They smile at every student, help them prepare their plates and give hugs when needed."

The Johnson fourth-grade group will select a winner each month during the school year through March 2017.  The group will take off June and July while they are out of school for summer break.  Jamie Skinner and Becky Dawson, teacher coordinators of the recognition program, assist the fourth-grade students at Johnson Elementary.
