Kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration date is set for Floyd County Schools
Posted on 01/21/2009
The registration date for the 2009 Kindergarten class for Floyd County Schools has been set for Thursday, April 30, 2009. The registration and screening will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at each primary and elementary school with Kindergarten classes in the school system. The schools include: Alto Park Elementary, Cave Spring Elementary, Garden Lakes Elementary, Glenwood Primary, Johnson Elementary, McHenry Primary, Midway Primary, Model Elementary and Pepperell Primary. The registration date is primarily for children not currently attending a Pre-K program in Floyd County Schools or a private Pre-K location in the Rome area. A child must be five years-old on or before September 1, 2009 to enroll.

If your child is participating in a Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K program, forms have been sent to all Pre-K programs and made available to parents through those programs. Students in the Pre-K programs will be screened for Kindergarten during the last two weeks of April while participating in the school or private daycare Pre-K program and parents will not be asked to bring these children to the screening on April 30. Screeners have also visited many private daycare centers in the area as well.

If you have not been provided with registration forms for Kindergarten or have not received a request to allow your child to be screened, you should attend the screening to be held on April 30. The screenings on April 30 will be available at the school the child will attend in the fall. No appointment is necessary. You may attend a screening at any time between 12:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The screening instrument the children will be given asks basic questions related to alphabet, number and shape recognition. For parents of a child who have not been screened as a part of the program they are currently attending, it is very important to make arrangements to attend the Kindergarten screening. The Kindergarten pre-registration helps the school know how many students to expect in the fall. It also gives parents an opportunity to ask questions concerning what they will need to do before their child begins school.

Important Reminders:
  • A parent needs to accompany the child to the screening.
  • The parent and child must attend the screening in their school district.
  • You will need to provide the official birth certificate for the child
  • The child's social security card or number (optional with a completed waiver)
  • Proof of residency (utility bills, etc.).
  • Parents should bring immunization and eye/ear/dental screening certificates, but these are not mandatory the day of the pre-registration and screening. (These must be completed by the first day of school in the fall.)
If you have question concerning Kindergarten registration, please call the school in your community.
