Coosa High School Sophomore soccer player Francisco “Paco” Miranda spent this weekend playing for the Georgia state champion Concorde Fire U16 Red in the US Youth Soccer National League opening weekend in Wilson, North Carolina. The US Youth Soccer National League features the top 48 club teams in the nation.

The Fire was one of only two teams in the 48 team tournament to leave the weekend undefeated. On Thursday, Nov. 18th, the Fire defeated AHFC 95B from Dallas, TX 3-1. On Friday, they defeated Eclipse Select 94 from Chicago, Illinois 3-0. Saturday, the Fire defeated the Downtown Rapids 95 of Las Vegas, Nevada 2-1 before finishing the weekend with a close 2-1 win over Bethesda FC from Maryland.

The US Youth Soccer National League will continue play on Feb. 19-21 in Weston, Florida where Miranda and his Georgia teammates will continue competing for a ticket to the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, July 26-31. Miranda, who plays midfield for Coosa High, played defensive midfield for the Fire. He scored 13 goals and had 10 assists during his freshman year last season for Coosa. The Coosa program is returning eight starters, including Miranda, from last season's squad.
