McHenry Holds Ribbon Cutting for Playground
Posted on 11/05/2010
McHenry Primary School held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new handicapped accessible playground on Thursday. The community joined in to help the school open the new play area and the children wasted no time in enjoying the efforts of those who helped to make the project a reality.

McHenry won the latest Pepsi Challenge and $25,000 grant to upgrade to the school’s playground. As a result of the first place finish in the nation-wide contest, McHenry Primary received the $25,000.00 grant from Pepsi to refurbish the school’s upper playground and make it handicapped accessible. McHenry entered their playground project in the Pepsi Refresh Project on the Internet earlier this year but did not make the finals. The school did not rest on that set-back but reapplied for the latest Pepsi Challenge and mobilized the community to support their cause. This is another example of persistence paying off. Area businesses also joined in the effort to make the playground accessible for all students at the school. Mike Waters, Vice President of Ra-Lin Construction Company, donated $2,400.00 toward the playground project at McHenry. The school also received help from Silver Creek Presbyterian Church and other private donations.
