Hope Bettler of AHS named a Commended Student in 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program

Hope Bettler, a senior at Armuchee High School, has been named a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from Armuchee High School and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented to Bettler by Dr. J.C. Burris, principal of Armuchee High. 

Bettler is an accomplished artist and has won numerous awards in art competitions including the Coosa Valley Fair Art Show. She is captain of the Armuchee Academic team, a member of the AHS Chorus, a member of the Spanish Honors Society and the National Honors Society. She was presented with the 2010 DAR Citizenship Award for excellence in history and named a 2010 district representative to Governor's Honors in Communicative Arts. Bettler was also a two time winner of the Floyd County Schools Spelling Bee. She took top spelling honors for the school system in 2005 and 2007. 

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Bettler and the other Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2011 competition by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
