Taylor Burkett, a 2010 graduate of Armuchee High School, is this year’s recipient of the Kristie Lynn Shiflett Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship was announced in a release from the KLS Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is presented each year to a student from Armuchee High School.

At Armuchee High School, Burkett participated in the National Honors Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, and chorus. She also served as vice president of her class.

In her winning essay, Burkett wrote about her aspirations to become a nurse. “Nursing would be a good career for me because I have a passion for children and babies,” she wrote. “I love being around babies and I feel like God has given me a special gift. Being there for the parents and having the honor of being a part of their experience would be a true blessing and know that I would look forward to work each day.” Burkett hopes to return to Rome and work at Floyd Medical Center.

Burkett is currently pursuing a career in nursing as a student at Kennesaw State University.
