McHenry Primary School has won the latest Pepsi Challenge and $25,000 for an upgrade to the school’s playground. McHenry surged into the top ten last week in the online vote and began this week in the top spot in the Pepsi promotion. As a result of the first place finish in the nation-wide contest, McHenry Primary will get a $25,000.00 grant from Pepsi to refurbish the school’s upper playground and make it handicapped accessible. McHenry entered their playground project in the Pepsi Refresh Project on the Internet earlier this year but did not make the finals. The school did not rest on that set-back but reapplied for the latest Pepsi Challenge and mobilized the community to support their cause. This is another example of persistence paying off.

McHenry also learned this week that an area business is joining in their effort to make the playground accessible for all students at the school. Mike Waters, Vice President of Ra-Lin Construction Company, has donated $2,400.00 toward the playground project at McHenry. Ra-Lin was the construction company in charge of the construction of Pepperell High School and the new Model High School that opened this fall.

McHenry hopes to begin the renovations immediately and open the new playground accessible to all students later this fall.
