Pepperell Middle wins Floyd County Math Competition

Pepperell Middle School has won the 2010 Floyd County Schools Middle School Math Competition. The Pepperell team emerged from the competition in first place after a close battle with Coosa Middle School. The final result was a virtual photo finish as there had to be a recount of total points to determine the winner. The competition involved honors math students in grades six, seven and eight in Floyd County Schools. 

Pepperell Middle also won two grade level competitions taking top honors in sixth and seventh grade. Coosa Middle School’s team placed first in the eighth grade division.

Individual honors included:

Sixth Grade
  • 1st place - Daniel Lovell of Pepperell Middle School and Kelly Wheeler Model Middle School (Tie)
  • 2nd place - Caleb Gilmore of Pepperell Middle School and Madison Hart of Model Middle School (Tie)
  • 3rd place - Tyler Gallagher of Armuchee Middle School 
Seventh Grade
  • 1st place - Himani Patel of Pepperell Middle School 
  • 2nd place - William Hand of Coosa Middle School & Kaitlyn Childers of Pepperell Middle School (Tie)
  • 3rd place - Alex Mitchell of Coosa Middle School
Eighth Grade
  • 1st place - Chance Henderson of Coosa Middle School
  • 2nd place - Cal Russell of Armuchee Middle School
  • 3rd place - Avery Jones of Coosa Middle School 
The Middle School Math Competition was held this week at the Rome/Floyd County Library. The competition includes two sessions with the first one held in the fall. Scores from both sessions are combined to determine winners of the competition.
