Eugene Smith, service manager of Floyd County Schools Transportation Department, placed second in the Northwest Georgia RESA School Bus Technician Competition. The second place finish for Smith qualifies him to compete in the state competition to be held on June 13 at North Georgia Technical College in Clarksville, Georgia.

The Northwest Georgia RESA competition was held at Georgia Highlands College on March 31 and included representatives from Bartow County Schools, Cartersville City Schools, Floyd County Schools, Gordon County Schools, and Paulding County Schools. Bus service technicians in the competition were given a written test and they had to identify 10 working parts from a school bus that were displayed on a table.

At the state competition, the technicians will again be required to take a written test but will also have to trouble shot and correct a problem with a school bus. The winner of the state competition will compete in the national finals to be held in San Antonio this summer.
