Jordan Worthey, a senior at Pepperell High School and a member of the school’s FFA chapter, is the 2011 state winner in the Beef Production Placement Proficiency. Worthey was recognized at the 83rd State FFA Convention held at the Macon Centreplex on April 28-30, 2011. Proficiency awards are granted to FFA members who have excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience. The Beef Production Placement Proficiency includes programs that use the best management practices available to produce and market beef efficiently.

Worthey’s winning proficiency involved working on his family’s farm where he helps to feed and care for 1,800 feeder calves. Worthey received a plaque, $100 cash, and $500 travel money to attend the National FFA Convention. The advisor of the state winner also received $100 cash. Michael Gardner is the Pepperell High FFA advisor. Worthey will represent the state of Georgia at the National FFA Convention this fall in Indianapolis.

The Beef Production Placement Proficiency is sponsored in Georgia by the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center and by Midwest PMS nationally. There are more than 500,000 FFA members nationwide. The Georgia Association has more than 30,000 members, making it the 3rd largest Association in the nation. The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success, through agricultural education.
