Free Breakfast Students
Free Breakfast for Primary and Elementary Students
Posted on 07/27/2011

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the Floyd County School’s will be offering free breakfast to all enrolled primary and elementary students during the 2011-2012 school year, regardless of family income. This healthy breakfast, which provides students with 25% of the recommended daily allowance of protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and C and calories, will be served at no cost. The free breakfast is funded by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

Research indicates that children who participate in the school breakfast program eats more fruits, drinks more milk, and consume a wider variety of foods throughout the day than students who do not.

Donna Carver, Nutrition Director for Floyd County Schools, believes that all students should start the day off with the advantage of a healthy breakfast. Carver said, “Free breakfast for the primary and elementary students will ensure that regardless of income, all will begin the day with an equally nutritious meal.”
