The Armuchee High School Varsity Football Cheerleaders excelled at the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) Cheerleading Camp this summer at the University of West Georgia. The squad of 16 Armuchee High cheerleaders had an outstanding camp and brought home several top awards. AHS girls took the 1st place trophy for dance, and 2nd place trophy for cheer, the Gatorade award, and 4 Superior ribbons. They were also voted the recipient of the Leadership Award by the other squads in attendance. The Leadership Award goes to the team that other participants would like to be a member of if not on their own squad.

The cheerleaders learned cheers, stunts and dances while at the camp. There were daily evaluations conducted to determine squad progress. The final day of camp was the overall evaluation during which each squad was evaluated by the UCA staff for awards. Three of the AHS cheerleaders made All American Cheerleader. They are: Austyn Brock, a senior; Taylor Arasmith, a senior; and Savannah Patrick, a junior. These three girls have been invited to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, as well as the New Year’s Day Parade in London.

This was the first time in several years the AHS Football Cheerleaders have attended an UCA camp. “It was a wonderful experience for the squad to grow as a team and get to know one another” said AHS coach Jessica Rich. The girls raised money to attend camp by holding a cheer camp for girls ages 4-11 during the first week of the summer. “We are looking forward to starting football season and showing the Armuchee fans what has been learned,” Rich stated.
