Armuchee High team places in Region Literary Meet

The Armuchee High School Literary team placed fifth in the 2012 Region 7AA Literary Meet held on March 9, 2012 in Calhoun. Ten Armuchee students competed against nine other high schools in the meet. The AHS team members also earned several individual awards. Bennett Garland, a junior, won first place in boys essay, Tayler Critchlow, a senior, placed third in girls dramatic interpretation, Augusta Hosmer, a junior, took fourth in girls extemporaneous speaking, and Katherine Clonts, a senior, placed fourth in girls essay. Representing Pepperell High School, senior Rosa Dobbs placed fourth in girl’s solo.

Bennett Garland's top finish in boys essay earned him the opportunity to represent Region 7AA at the State Literary Meet on Saturday, March 17th in Warner Robbins, Ga where he placed fifth in competition with other high school students from across the state. In response to his award, Garland stated “It was a great way to test my writing skills.” He added, “Literary offers students the opportunity to express themselves in different ways using a wide variety of talents, whether it’s in music or writing or dramatic interpretation." 

The Armuchee Literary team was led by coach Emily Mowery, an Honors (AP) Literature and Journalism teacher at Armuchee High. “Students began preparing for their individual events in January," stated Mowery. "The honors English and social studies classes also helped prepare students for writing and speaking events, which involve knowledge of current events.” Armuchee High team members included: Christina Reid, senior, girls solo; Austin Ruth, senior, boys quartet; Corey Nickles, senior, boys quartet and boys dramatic interpretation; Mark Kim, senior, boys quartet; Austin Adams, junior, boys quartet; Austin Bryant, senior, boys extemporaneous speaking; Augusta Hosmer, junior, girls extemporaneous speaking; Tayler Cirtchlow, senior, girls dramatic interpretation; Katherine Clonts, senior, girls essay and Bennett Garland, junior, boys essay.
