William Moraga, a senior at Coosa High, has been selected as the school's STAR student. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award, sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; the Georgia Department of Education and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, is presented to a high school senior with the school’s highest SAT score and ranking in the top ten percent or top ten members of the school’s senior class. Each STAR student selects a STAR Teacher in the recognition program. William chose Mrs. Barbara Westbrook, his AP English Language and AP English Literature teacher as his STAR Teacher.

Moraga is the valedictorian at Coosa High for 2012 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. "William always pushes himself to try harder and looks for ways to improve," stated Heather Whitfield, counselor at Coosa High. "He has a spirit of curiosity about him that drives him to seek answers and learn new things." Moraga takes a full honors/AP course load at Coosa High. Whitfield added, "William chooses to take AP courses as electives instead of courses that might be easier because he knows that those courses will help him in his post secondary career."

Moraga not only excels in the classroom but he is also a leader on the Coosa Eagle soccer team. He plans to attend Berry College or Shorter University in the fall and would like to pursue a career in the medical field.
