Principals are known for many things but their lips are usually reserved for such activities as kissing a pig for a school or charity fundraiser. One Floyd County principal's lips are becoming famous throughout the community for their pucker aimed at a different cause. For the second year in a row, Carmen Jones, principal of Pepperell Primary school, has been named the winner of the second annual Sarah Greene Brock Memorial Loveliest Lips Contest. Greene’s Jewelers in Rome hosts the contest to raise funds for women’s heart health awareness through the Heart of the Community Foundation. To enter the contest, those interested were to visit Greene’s between Dec. 27 and Jan. 15 and make an imprint of their lips. Voting consisted of giving $1 per vote to the charity. The person receiving the most votes was then named “Rome’s Loveliest Lips” and received a half-carat diamond pendant valued at $1,200. All proceeds are donated to the Heart of the Community Foundation to help educate women concerning heart health.

Jones raised the most money through votes for her lip imprint for the second year in a row and was recently presented with the diamond pendant prize at the school. The Pepperell Primary teachers, students and community raised over $1,400.00 in the contest. In presenting the prize to Jones, Elaine Abercrombie of Green's Jewelers said, "This is a terrific story because Carmen donates the pendant back to the school to benefit the school." Students and staff joined in celebrating the victory with the presentation of the pendant. Jones plans to auction the pendant and donate the proceeds to the school. "It is such a blessing that these children are leaning at an early age to give back to the community, that is something they will remember for the rest of their lives," added Abercrombie.
