This is the image for the news article titled Model senior is awarded NASSP/Herff Jones ScholarshipJacob Fincher, a senior at Model High School, has been named a recipient of a NASSP/Herff Jones Principal's Leadership Award Scholarship, co-sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and Herff Jones, Inc. One hundred national state winners were chosen from among more than 3,000 applications. Each state winner will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. Participating high school principals from across the country nominate one senior high student to compete in the program. Winners were selected on the basis of their leadership skills; participation in service organizations and clubs; achievements in the arts and sciences; employment experience; and academic record. They also were required to write an essay.

"The perseverance and leadership qualities that Jacob Fincher has demonstrated will serve him well in both the near and distant future," said NASSP Executive Director JoAnn Bartoletti. "The ability to lead a group toward the achievement of a common goal is an essential skills for success in the 21 st century, and the selection for a Principal's Leadership Award indicates that he is on the track to success."

While at Model High, Fincher has participated in;FCA for four years, he was FCA Huddle Leader as a senior, on the tennis team all four years, and participated in Cross Country. He was the 2012 Key Club President, in the National Honors Society, received the The Key Club International Leadership Scholarship, was an AXA Community Service finalist, Optimist Student of the Month, Model High School Student of the Month, Optimist Student of the Year Volunteerism finalist and he served on the Superintendent's student advisory panel for Model High. Fincher also excelled academically as he has been honored for excellence in American Literature, he scored Pass Plus on all areas of the Georgia High School Graduation Test, and he will graduate with Honors. " Jacob is an excellent example of a "Model" student," stated Dr. Glenn White, principal of Model High School. "He is a hard working young man who unselfishly gives of his time to help others." This fall, Fincher plans to attend Young Harris College.
