Schools on regular schedule Thursday
Cold temps Thursday but school on regular schedule

Bus shotFloyd County Schools will be open on normal schedule for Thursday but it will be very cold.  Teachers have been asked to talk with children about taking extra precautions to make sure they are prepared for the very cold temperatures.  The low for tomorrow is forecast to be 12 degrees.  Winds should diminish overnight but the windchill could still be near 4 degrees for those waiting for the bus early in the morning.  Children are reminded to wear layers of clothing, gloves, hats and scarfs to protect exposed skin.  Teachers are also encouraged to dress to stay warm.

Bus drivers are being instructed to allow extra time for children at bus stops who may be waiting in cars or inside the door for the bus to arrive.  As a result, the bus could be arriving at homes a little later than normal in the morning as extra time is taken at some of the stops.  Parents, please have children ready for school and waiting in a warm place prepared to immediately move out to the bus stop when the bus arrives.

Extra precautions are being taken by bus drivers to warm buses before beginning routes and maintenance personnel will monitor parking lots to look for ice that may have accumulated from standing water.

Parents certainly have the ultimate decision on how or if their children are in school on Thursday.  We want parents to know that schools and buses will be warm and prepared for children in the morning.
