Coosa High School Honored For Performance On State Testing

Coosa High School was among schools honored on Tuesday by the state for student performance on state testing.State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox announced Tuesday morning the winners of the 2nd annual Superintendent’s Distinguished Achievement Awards. These awards honor schools for high achievement and the greatest improvement on state curriculum tests.Coosa High School was recognized for improve on two high school End-of-Course Tests. Coosa High had the third highest score increase on the economics test, with 70.91% of students meeting or exceeding standards. That score was a 35.91% increase over 2008. Coosa High also had the fifth largest gain on the 9th grade literature and composition test. Coosa 9th graders scored 81.46 % meeting or exceeding standards, which was an increase of 22.92% over last year. The Superintendent’s Distinguished Achievement Awards are based on the performance of students on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT), the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT), the End-of-Course Tests (EOCT) and the state Writing Tests.  These awards acknowledge schools in two categories:

- IMPROVEMENT: The ten schools in each honored subject area and grade that had the greatest improvement in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards.

- ACHIEVEMENT: The ten schools in each honored subject area and grade that had the highest percentage of students score in the exceeds category.

A certificate is being sent to Coosa High and the other winning schools acknowledging their achievement
