Course Description:

This course emphasizes the development of skills required for improved productivity in producing and editing electronic communications and professional business presentations incorporating multimedia.  Students will create, format, illustrate, design, and print business presentations.

 

Course Objectives:

The class will consist of student-centered instruction.  Students will

  • Formulate a working definition of interactive multimedia
  • Demonstrate competence in using Macromedia Sound MX and other programs
  • Demonstrate the use of animation, digitized sound, video control, and scanned images
  • Use basic instructional design principles in the development of stacks
  • Develop conceptual maps of content and process for interactive multimedia program.

 

Mission Statement:

The Coosa High School Business Department is dedicated to providing students with the necessary technology skills and opportunities to participate competitively in tomorrow’s society.

 

Career Opportunities:

Multimedia developers are on the cutting edge of computer technology.  They combine graphics, text, sound, animation, and video to make the wired world a dynamic place.  Multimedia content can be found in video games, websites, CD-ROM’s, DVDs, and touch screen computers.

 

Grading Policy:

Grades will be divided among the following areas:

  • Class work and homework assignments  25%
  • Tests and evaluation projects                     60%
  • Final Exam                                                     15%

Grading is cumulative throughout the semester.  Progress reports will be sent out according to the FCBOE schedule.  Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher at anytime concerning his/her child’s progress.

 

Attendance:

The new Floyd County Policy on attendance will govern makeup work and appeals for credit in this course.

 

FBLA:

Future Business Leaders of America is a student organization that focuses on the development of students as communicators and leaders.  The business teachers strongly encourage students to participate in this organization.  More information is available from your child’s teacher.

Supplemental materials provided in class such as articles and worksheets.

 

Classroom Rules:

Basic Classroom Rules include, but are not limited to:

  • Be in your seat with the proper materials before the tardy bell rings.
  • Stay in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise.
  • Follow directions.
  • Treat others and the property of others with respect.
  • Follow all policies outlined in the student handbook. The CHS Classroom Management Plan will be followed for basic class disruptions.
  • No food or drinks in the business labs.

 

Internet/Computer Use Guidelines:

  • Students should only access the Internet with the expressed permission of the instructor.
  • No Personal use of e-mail will be allowed
  • Inappropriate use of internet resources will not be tolerated.
  • No personal software may be installed or downloaded on the machines
  • Anyone changing system settings will be subject to D-Hall and/or ISS.  This includes screen savers and desktop pictures.

 

Video Permission:

The business department is focused on providing a broad career awareness program along with the objectives of the course.  In doing so, we expose students to various careers through the use of the Internet, PowerPoint presentations, and movies/videos.  Often commercial movies have many positive aspects on career knowledge and opportunities.  These movies are often rated PG or PG-13.  By signing this syllabus, you give your student permission to view these movies when shown in the classroom.  If you would prefer your child not to view these movies, alternate assignments will be given.  Please note on this syllabus that you do not want your student to see these videos.

 

Additional Help:

The teacher is available for extra help when needed.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the needed time, and to be present during that time.
