Coosa coach Zach Morrison gave his wrestling team a pep talk after their
first match. It worked. The Eagles went undefeated on the day, defeating
Armuchee, Pepperell and Model in the Floyd County Invitational at Coosa on Wednesday.
The Eagles defeated Armuchee, 42-40, but Morrison saw his team could
compete better.
“After the Armuchee match, we met and I told them, ‘We need to pick up the
intensity,’” said Morrison. “In the next two matches, they wrestled
extremely well. They’ve been working hard.
“I told them at the beginning of the season, ‘If you’re going to be a part
of this team, you’ve got to work hard.,’ he added. “They’ve been working
hard.”
The Eagles responded by defeating Pepperell, 42-40, and Model, 47-38.
Tyler Chastain (145) and Seth Broome (220) were both perfect on the day
with 3-0 performances. Dani Elias (182) was 2-0.
Morrison said his team was shorthanded for the event. “We had some kids out sick,” said
Morrison. “We had some JV kids step up.” The Eagles next compete in Rockmart’s
Jacket Invitational on Friday at 9 a..m.
“They invite a lot of good schools from the area, so it’ll be a tough
tournament,” said Morrison.
