COOSA GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY REPEAT AS REGION CHAMPIONS

October 27, 2011

Consistency was the word of the day for the Coosa High School Girl’s Cross Country team.  Coach Candi Cole and Coach Ricky Riordan have worked extremely hard preparing the Lady Eagles for their second straight Region Cross Country title.  The team made a commitment to repeat this season and held true to their word.  “I am so proud of our young ladies”, stated Coach Candi Cole.  “We won a Region Title when I ran here a few years ago and it is great being part of a repeat performance”. “The girls have worked really hard this year. We’ve trained hard ever since we started in August. Our goal was to repeat as region champions, and the girls just ran a good race,” Coach Rick Riordan said. “Our times were not great but we placed well. Our top five was bunched together good, so this was a good result for us today. We’re real proud of the girls.” Coosa, scored 77 points to grab first place.  The Coosa Squad was paced by Rebecca Mullinax who was followed by her sisters, Joanna and Elizabeth.  Mary Corbin, Alena Holmes, Estefany Arellano, and Katelyn Flemister rounded out the performance.

Coosa Girls Win Region Championship !!!

The Coosa High School Girls Cross Country Team won the Region 7-AA Championship on Oct. 28, 2010.  This was the first title in Cross Country for the Lady Eagles. The Coosa girls, along with Pepperell (third) and Armuchee (fourth), will compete in the state competition to be held this Saturday Nov. 6 in Carrollton at 3:00 p.m. The Coosa High varsity runners and their places in the Region Meet were: freshmen Alena Holmes (first), sophomore Rebecca Mullenax (seventh), sophomore Elizabeth Mullenax (eighth), senior Hannah Blanton (tenth), senior Ansleigh Whitlock (16th), freshmen Joanna Mullenax (17th), and sophomore Tania Chavez (31st). The Coosa High coaches are Candi Cole, Leah Couch, Jim Moore, Ricky Riordan and Allen Gossett.

Alena Holmes of Coosa is the girl’s Region 7-AA Champion in Cross Country. She won the meet with a time of 21:40. Fourth place went to Anna Beth LeRoy and sixth place to Savanna Barnett both of Pepperell. LeRoy and Barnett, both earn individual state meet qualifications along with their team. Taylor Phillips of Model was fifth, also earning an individual state meet qualification. For the boys, the Pepperell High School’s team finished in second place and will compete at the state meet. Pepperell boys were lead by third-place finisher Nick Williams. The Pepperell team is coached by Michael Watson and Jonathon Silver. Kelly Staud and Troy Fitzpatrick are the Model coaches, and Scott Pierce coached the Armuchee team.
