ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURES

SYLLABUS

Coach Agan, Instructor

Course Description:

Entrepreneurship focuses on recognizing a business opportunity, starting a business based on the recognized opportunity, and operating and maintaining that business.  Preparation of a business plan allows students to apply the functional areas of business – accounting, finance, marketing, and management – and the legal and economic environments in which a new venture operates to an idea for a new business venture.  School-based enterprises resulting from the study of entrepreneurship give students the opportunity to plan, open, operate and maintain a business as a work-based learning experience.

Course Objectives:

The class will consist of student-centered instruction concentrating on “real world” applications of entrepreneurial concepts.  The Coosa High School Store will provide a work-based learning experience for this class.  Students will become familiar with the following:

·    Characteristics of an entrepreneur

·    Business planning

·    Marketing

·    Finance

·    Record keeping

·    Management concepts

·    Import/export opportunities, cultural differences, and current trends

·    Technology

·    Ethics

·    Government

·    Professionalism and leadership

Career Opportunities

Entrepreneur is the name given to a person who starts and runs a new business.  What unites entrepreneurs of all kinds is the fact that they see an opportunity to successfully market a product or service and act on it.  The product itself can be anything from auto parts to courier services to computer software.
