Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia, has the oldest Soccer Team in the Floyd County School
System. The Boys (Coed at the time) team was established in 1989 by head
coach, Randy Vice... The Girl's team under the leadership of Roger
Dewey,(1994,1995), Randy Vice, (1996,&97) Cindy Moore,(98,2000) qualified
for post-season play the first five seasons of their existance . Coach Josh
Agan was Girls Head Coach for 3 years. The boys team, led by Randy Vice for
18 years, made several region playoff tournaments and one state tournament
appearance. Coach Vice retook the helm of the Girls team in 2004 as well as
the Boy's Team. Coach Eric Plants led the Girls team in 2005. The Current
head coach of the Girls team is Erick Hopper . Coach Vice retired after his
18th season at the helm of the Boy’s team . Coach Jimmy Easterwood was named
the new head coach of the Coosa Boy’s Soccer
program. For the 2007 season. Coach
Vice returned as head coach of the Boys team in 2008. JV TOURNAMENT

Coosa 3, Armuchee 4, Eagles fail to make playoffs.
The Coosa Eagles fought hard and came back three times
before yielding a goal to Armuchee with 2 minutes remaining in the second
half. Octavio Vasquez, Paco Miranda,
and Sixto Moraga scored goals for the Eagles.
Eduardo Vasquez recorded 6 saves in goal.
Coosa drops two games to Rome
and Cedartown
The Eagles lost
6-0 and 5-0 respectively to larger schools Rome and Cedartown do run their
record to 8-3 on the season.

The Rockmart
Yellow Jackets came to win Monday night as the held the Eagles to 3 goals
while compiling one of their own. Coosa’s goals were scored by Franscisco “Paco”
Miranda (2) and William Moraga
(1). Assists were recorded by Sixto Moraga and Octavio Vasquez.

Two Floyd County rivals battled hard Thursday
and needed penalty kicks to decide the game after a 2-2 tie at the end of
regulation.
Coosa then
connected on all five PK’s in the shootout, and Model made four of five to
give the Eagles the win. “It was a great effort all around,” said Coosa coach Randy Vice. “I’m so proud of my guys
because they were down for a while there. “Model has really stepped it up
(since the last time we played) and they played really well today.”
Francisco “Paco” Miranda scored the first goal for Coosa
(7-2, 1-1) on an assist from Sixto Moraga. Octavio Vasquez then tied the game
in the 70th minute on a penalty kick.
Taylor Meeks had both goals for Model (3-4, 1-1).
Coosa next plays on Monday at Shorter
College against
Rockmart; Model hosts Armuchee Tuesday.
Eagles
Fall to Tigers
The Eagles made two key
errors in the 1st half including a foul near the top of the box
which cost them dearly as Darlington took a 2-0 lead into half time. Sixto Moraga scored the Eagles lone goal
with 4 minutes remaining. Darlington
was able to hold on to the win in spite of a last minute barrage of Coosa shots on goal at the end of the contest.
Gordon
Central ends Streak
Downs Coosa 5-1
Gordon Central put an end to Coosa’s
undefeated run by limiting the Eagles to one goal in at Gordon Central.
Sixto Moraga scored the lone goal for the
Eagles, who fell to 6-1 overall. Coosa plays Chattooga on Thursday night at Shorter College’s Ben Brady Field.

held on for a road win. Sixto Moraga scored the first goal on a free kick,
and Emilio Deleon made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal. Eduardo Vazquez had the
shutout in goal for Coosa (6-0) with four
saves.
The Eagles are back on the road today at Gordon
Central.

Struggle but Win to go 5-0.
It was one of
those nights when everything seemed to go wrong for the Coosa Eagles. Shots wide to the right, wide to the left,
a missed save by an All-Area keeper;
Nonetheless the Eagles were able to pull out a 2-1 win (PK Shootout)
over a scrappy Chattooga team. Coosa got on the board first with a 30 yd. shot from
Sixto Moraga but failed to find the net for the rest of the half. With 17 minutes remaining, Chattooga scored
on a 35 yd. direct kick which slipped through the hands of normally sure
handed Eduardo Vasquez. After a missed
penalty kick in OT, Coosa was able to score
on two of their PKs during the shootout while Vasquez blocked all 3 Indian
shots. This is the first time Coosa has ever started the season with 5 straight

stated, “ It’s my fault we almost lost this game. We are in intersession and I did a poor job
preparing them for this contest. The
players did a great job pulling off
the PK shootout and hats off to Eduardo for a great job in goal”.

Playing on the artifical turf at Shorter
College’s Ben Brady Field, the Coosa
boys used a huge performance from Sixto Moraga to down their Floyd County rivals. Moraga finished with four goals and two
assists for the Eagles, who owned a 3-2 lead at the half before pulling away
in the final 40 minutes. “This was a
great match, and both teams really played hard and played with terrific intensity,”
said Coosa coach Randy Vice. “The final
score didn’t reflect just how intense this match really was.” Vice said the excitement level was raised
by the unusual venue and the later-than-normal starting time (7 p.m.) “We are so appreciative of Shorter College for giving us this opportunity
to play on this field,” said Vice. “It was a great experience for both
teams.”
Paco Miranda had one goal and three assists for Coosa,
and Octavio Vasquez added two goals and one assist. Emilo DeLeon and Jared VanCuren
added one goal apiece.
Keeper Edwardo Vasquez and Jose Fortenoel led the defensive charge for Coosa, which visits Gordon Central on Wednesday.

The Coosa Eagles
defeated Rockmart, 10-0, with the help of five goals from Sixto Moraga.
Coosa (3-0) also got a big game from Francisco
Miranda who had three goals and three assists. Cesar Cornejo added a goal and
an assist, and Jonathan Artega rounded out the scoring with a goal.
William Moraga and Stephen Walters each had an assist.
Coosa will next play on Monday against Model at Shorter College’s
Ben Brady Field under the lights.

down Sonoraville
The CHS boys team down
Sonoraville 5-0 at Sonoraville to improve their record to 2-0 overall. Sixto Moraga and Francisco (Paco) Miranda
had 2 goals each while Stephen Walters had one. The defense made up of Jose Fortenal , Jared
Van Curen, Jose Hernandez, and Marco Antonio played extremely well. Keeper Eduardo Vasquez had 3 saves in goal.
Eagles Start off 2010 with Win
against Adairsville

The Coosa
boys soccer team began its attempt at defending the Area 14-A/AA title in
earnest on Monday by beating Adairsville 6-0 at home.
Junior Sixto Moraga led
the Eagles with three goals and two assists in their season opener while
senior goalkeeper Eduardo Vasquez recorded 11 saves.
“Adairsville took a lot
of shots on goal and Eduardo had a really good game,” Coosa
coach Randy Vice said. “I was really pleased with the way the guys rebounded
from our scrimmage with Cartersville.”
Octovio Vasquez had two
goals for the Eagles (1-0) while Francisco “Paco” Miranda had a goal and
three assists in the game.
Marco Arreno played hard
on the defensive side of the ball for Coosa
as Vice played a group of young defenders after some of his starters were
issued yellow cards early in the second half.
The Eagles have a week
off before playing Sonoraville on the road next Monday.
2010
Eagles Training Hard this Summer at Berry

The 2010 Eagles have already began preparing themselves for the
upcoming season. 16 of the Eagles, the
majority of the starting squad,
arrived at Berry
College for Summer Camp
with a motivation driven by last season’s playoff run. The team will be led by Seniors Octavio
Vasquez, Eduardo Vasquez, and Jose (Kenny) Hernandez as they prepare for the
upcoming season. While repeating last
years Area Championship will be a
challenge with this extremely young squad, hopes are high for a solid season
with a possible run at the playoffs. Coach Randy Vice commented on this
year’s team: “Jose Hernandez and Octavio Vasquez are the solid field
leadership we need for this team” added Vice, “I have been extremely pleased
with the play of the underclassmen who have really had a great summer.” “I am
also looking forward to watching Sixto (RN-T All Area Sophomore) Moraga mesh with this
talented bunch of Freshmen and Sophomores.” Jared Van Curen and Eduardo
Vasquez (RN-T All Area Keeper) are the only returning defensive starters.

Freshman Fransico (Paco) Miranda attends Olympic Development Camp

"Paco" Miranda has just returned from the REGION III Olympic
Development Program Soccer Camp. One of only two players from the North Georgia area chosen to attend. The US Youth
Soccer Olympic Development Program Region III has several missions, however,
the primary mission is to identify elite level Region III players and
facilitate their selection to the US National Team programs. The selection
process takes place through state, regional and national trials. The primary
benefit to the player is to be able to try out, train, and play against the
best players in their age group, allowing the best players to further their
development as soccer players. Paco had a great camp and hopes to find
out within the week whether or not he has made the Region Squad which
includes the best players from Alabama , Arkansas , Florida , Georgia ,
Louisiana , Mississippi , North Carolina, Oklahoma , South Carolina ,
Tennessee , Texas North , and Texas South. He has consistently
been one of the state of Georgia’s
top goal scorers while playing for the Concorde Soccer Club out of the Metro
Area. Head Coach Randy Vice of Coosa commented: “We are excited to
have Paco as part of the Coosa family, he is
a hard worker and an outstanding young man on the playing field and in the
classroom. I believe he will continue in his successful endeavors in
both areas and should help us continue the tradition of excellence we expect
from all of our players”
