Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia,
has the oldest Soccer Team in the Floyd
County School
System. The Boys (Coed at the time) team was established in 1989 by head coach,
Randy Vice... The Girl's team under the leadership of Roger Dewey,(1994,1995), Randy Vice, (1996,&97) Cindy
Moore,(98,2000) qualified for post-season play the first five seasons of their existance . Coach Josh Agan was
Girls Head Coach for 3 years. The boys team, led by
Randy Vice for 18 years, made several region playoff tournaments and one state
tournament appearance. Coach Vice retook the helm of the Girls team in 2004 as
well as the Boy's Team. Coach Eric Plants led the Girls team in 2005. The
Current head coach of the Girls team is Leah Couch .
Coach Vice retired after his 18th season at the helm of the Boy’s team . Coach Jimmy Easterwood was
named the new head coach of the Coosa Boy’s
Soccer program for the 2007 season.
Coach Vice returned as head coach of the Boys team in 2008. Coosa won their first Area Championship in 2009. Below is a synopsis of the first four

Four Years

The Soccer program at Coosa High
School came into existance
in 1988/89 and was coeducational and played in the boys
division.Randy Vice was chosen as the Eagles first
and only (Boys) head coach. The Eagles first game was against Calhoun at
Calhoun. The final score was 2-1 in favor of the veteran Calhoun squad. Vernon
Browning scored the first goal in Coosa
history. Sophomore Aaron Vaughan, not eligible until the third game, scored 14
goals that season, a season scoring record which stood until 1998 when it was
tied by Raphael Rodrigues. Stopper Marco Galvan
broke the record once again in 1999 by netting 16. Defender John
Kendrick, Dan Wlodkowski, Aaron Vaughan, and Vernon
Browning all made all area that year. The club record was 3-6-1 that year which
exceeded the expectations of most of the school. The 1989 Squad featured
Coosa’s first international player, Thomas Larsen, from Denmark, who
had a great season and helped legitimize the new team.
1989/90 brought about the
first home games for the Eagles. The team played behind Coosa Middle school.
Glen Garcia led all Coosa scorers that year
while Donald Bing made All-Tournament and All-Area as a goalkeeper. Garcia,
Vaughn, and Kendrick also made All-Area. Amy Wlodkowski
started at Fullback for the Eagles becoming the first girl in the Rome area to start on a boys team. The record for 1989/90 was 5-5-3.
1990/91 was dominated by
Ties and upsets, the record was 4-4-4 with three 2-1 losses. Rodrigo Casanga, John Kendrick, and Andres Jimenez made All-area.
1991/92 was the greatest
season in Coosa History (Boys)...The team finished 9-3 with one of the losses
coming in the state playoffs to AAAA Mchechern, 2-1
in overtime. John Kendrick, Matt Bryant, Andres Jimenez, Ricardo Pioli, Beaver Packer, and Eric Browning all made All-Area.
Many of the players on this team had played as freshmen on the inaugural team.. They were: Eric Browning, Jason Lee, Matt Bryant, Stephen
Frame, John Kendrick, Beaver Packer, and Andres Jimenez. Roger Dewey was the
Assistant Coach and Head J.V. Coach and contributed greatly to the success of
the team.
