2003 Game Summaries

Coosa 4, Hiram 3
The Eagles got a victory in their season opener in a back-and-forth affair at Hiram in Paulding County. Coosa (1-0) got the scoring going in the sixth minute when William Navarrete netted an unassisted goal. Seven minutes later, the Hornets responded with a goal of their own to tie the game at 1, which was the score at halftime. Coosa grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute when Navarrete hit Adrian Marks with a pass and he scored to give the Eagles a one-goal advantage. Again, the lead was short-lived, as Hiram got a goal of its own in the 56th minute to level the game at 2-2. Coosa’s Ryan Stroupe scored in the 68th minute when he took a pass from Marks and buried it to put the Eagles up 3-2. Two minutes later, the Hornets struck back and tied the game again, this time at 3. But Navarrete sealed the win for Coosa in the 75th minute when he scored off a pass from Stroupe. Freshman Jorge Galvis made 20 saves to get the win in goal for the Eagles.

Feb. 28 Cass 7, Coosa 2

William Navarette had 2 goals and Jorge Galvis had 17 saves but that wasn’t enough to defeat Cass who beat the Eagles 7-2.

 March  07 East Paulding 8, Coosa 1

Playing without team captain William Navaratte, the Eagles were defeated by East Paulding 8-1.  Henry Castro had the assist off of a Ryan Stroupe throw-in in the second half to score Coosa's lone goal. Jorge Galvis had an official 34 saves in goal.

March 11, Adairsville 3, Coosa 2
Adairsville defeated Coosa for the first time by a score of 3-2.  Alfredo Fonseca and Juan Carlos Guzman each recorded goals while Ryan Stroupe and Fonseca had assists.  Navarette completed his suspension after this game.

Coosa 9, Chattooga 3

William Navaratte had a double hat trick, if such a thing exists, firing in six goals in Coosa’s win over Chattooga. Ryan Stroupe, Juan Carlos Guzman and Adrian Marks each had a goal in the win. Coosa (2-2, 1-0) led 4-2 at the half. Jorge Galvis had six saves in goal, Roy Burkhalter had three assists and Stroupe and Marks had one each in the win.

Darlington 3, Coosa 2

In a classic game, Darlington scored on a penalty kick with 3 minutes remaining to defeat the Eagles at the new soccer field.  William Navarrete scored 1 goal, Adrian Marks had 1 goal, Cody Robinson and Juan Carlos Guzman had assists.  Jorge Galvis had 17 saves in goal.

Coosa 4, Villa Rica 0

William Navaratte continued his dominance around the net in Coosa’s upset of Villa Rica. Navaratte scored three goals, including two in the first 10 minutes, and had an assist in the game. Navaratte scored at the 2nd minute, the 8th minute and the 46th minute. Alfredo Fonceca scored Coosa’ final goal in the 70th minute. Villa Rica had 16 shots and Coosa had 24 in the win. Jorge Galvis had 16 saves in goal for Coosa. Ryan Stroupe and Roy Burkhalter had assists.

 Coosa 6, Southside (Ala.) 1

Coosa’s William Navaratte was at it again, scoring three goals and adding an assist for good measure in the Eagles’ non-region victory over Southside, Ala. Teammate Adrian Marks added two goals to the Coosa cause. Alfredo Fonseca scored Coosa’s other goal in the win. Coosa goalkeepers Jorge Galvis (5) and Jose Lucero (6) combined for 13 saves in goal. Ryan Stroupe, Roy Burkhalter, and Cody Robinson all had assists.

Coosa 7, Armuchee 1

The Eagles got a hat trick from William Navaratte and two goals from Adrian Marks to thump the Indians in an Area 6-A/AA match at Coosa.  Navaratte scored twice and Juan Carlos Guzman scored in the first half to give Coosa (6-4, 2-1 in 6-A/AA) a 3-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Marks scored twice and Navaratte added his third of the match while Alfredo Fonseca got into the act, scoring on a header off a corner kick by Navaratte. Keeper Jorge Galvis made eight saves for the Eagles.

Coosa 2, Fort Payne (Ala.) 2

Coosa took a trip across state lines on Friday and tied with a talented Fort Payne team. William Navaratte scored at the 22nd minute on an assist from Juan Carols Guzman and Josh Jefferies scored on a pass by Roy Burkhalter at the 36th minute for Coosa. Jorge Galvis had 31 saves for Coosa (6-4-1).

Coosa 6, Adairsville 3

William Navaratte scored five goals as the Coosa Eagles shook off a stubborn Adairsville squad to win the Area 6-AA/A match. The victory improves Coosa to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1 in area play heading into a showdown today at Coosa against area rival Model. Against the Adairsville Tigers, the Eagles established a 3-0 halftime lead thanks to the scoring combination of Navarette and Jaun Carlos Guzman, with Navaratte being assisted by Guzman on each goal. But the Tigers charged back to tally three unanswered goals in a five-minute stretch early in the second half to tie the game. That’s when Navaratte struck again, giving Coosa the lead for good with a goal in the 60th minute thanks to an assist by Brian Welchel. Two minutes later Navarette scored his final goal of the game, an unassisted shot that was his 26th of the year. Jorge Galvis had 17 saves in goal. Roy Burkhalter closed out the scoring for Coosa with an unassisted goal. The game was dedicated to former player Matt Bryant, a keeper for the 1994 state playoff team who passed away this week.

Model 5, Coosa 0

Model defeated Coosa 5-0 with Gonzalez scoring 4 of the 5 goals.  Galvis had 30 saves.

Ft. Payne 6, Coosa 1

Ft. Payne 5, Coosa 0     Galvis had 30 saves in goal.

Calhoun 6, Coosa 1

Adrian Marks had Coosa’s sole goal off an assist from Ryan Stroupe.  Galvis had 25 saves.

Coosa 6, Southside 1

Coosa’s William Navaratte scored his 31st goal of the year against Southside, surpassing his own school record for goals in a season. Navaratte scored five goals in the game and Adrian Marks had one goal and an assist in the game. Juan Carlos Guzman had three assists, breaking a school record for season assists and Roy Burkhalter had one assist. Jorge Galvis had 23 saves in a goal.

Calhoun 7, Coosa 2 Region Playoff Game

With 18 minutes left the score was tied 2-2, William Navarette had 2 goals while Jorge Galvis netted 31 saves in goal.  However, Calhoun came on strong and finished up with a 7-2 tally
