2001 Game Summaries






February 17:  Calhoun Jamboree:  Coosa defeats Chattooga 1-0 on a goal scored by William Navaratte.  Coosa loses to Calhoun 2-1, Juan Carlos Guzman scored that goal.  Coosa is defeated by Darlington 1-0.

February 21: Lafayette 4, Coosa 3   :  The Eagles came back from a 1-0 deficit to take a 3-1 lead but the Lafayette Ramblers tied the game with 2:25 seconds remaining and scored the go ahead goal in overtime.  William Navaratte scored all three of the Eagles goals off of assists by Jaziel Luna, Jeremy Anthony, and Conrad Galvan.

February 28: Coosa 5, Woodland 0 :  The Eagles scored 5 goals in Woodland.  William Navarette scored 4 goals off of assists from Russ Burnett and Conrad Galvan.  Two of Navarettes goals were P.K.s.  Justin Pollard scored the opening goal off a Cory McAdams throw-in.  Cody Dake had 18 saves while Luke Waters had 9.

3-8-01  Chapel Hill 3, Coosa 2: Ryan Stroupe scored 1 goal and Jaziel Luna added another but it wasnt enough to stop Chapel Hill which scored three goals.  Cody Dake had 13 saves.
 
 

3-9-01  Coosa 8, Adairsville In the boys' game ¯ an 8-0 victory by the Eagles ¯ William Navarette led the way by scoring three goals. By recording the hat trick, Navarette now has 10 goals on the season. Coosa also received a two-goal, two-assist performance from Jaziel Luna while Ryan Stroupe, Conrad Galvan, and John Burton pitched in with one goal apiece. Jeremy Anthony and Luke Waters added assists. The Coosa defensive attack was paced by Dusty Cordle, Will Youngblood and Dustin Pollard. "Those three (players) were outstanding today," said Coosa coach Randy Vice. "They really stepped up and played well." In goal, the Coosa duo of Luke Watters and Cody Duke combined for eight saves during the shutout.

LADY EAGLES  3-9-01  Coosa 7, Adairsville By David Dawson, Rome News-Tribune Sports Writer
It just kept getting better and better for the Coosa High soccer teams on Friday. Playing host to Adairsville, the Eagles and the Lady Eagles both produced shutout wins during a doubleheader sweep. In the girls' game ¯ a 7-0 Coosa victory ¯ Lindsey Davis scored two goals and added an assist to help the Lady Eagles pick up their first win of the season. Katy Nicholson and Carmen Shirey also scored two goals apiece for Coosa (1-5 overall, 1-3 Area 6-AA/A) and Haley Boyd chipped in the other. Defensively, Coosa keeper Erika Otwell recorded 10 saves.

3/14/01  Coosa 6, Adairsville 0 ,William Navarette now has 12 goals and nine assists through five      games for the Eagles (3-2, 2-0 Area 6-A/AA). On Tuesday, Navarette had two goals and two assists. Cory McAdams had two  goals and goals also were scored by Jaziel Luna and Dusty Cordle.                 Adams and Jose Galvan also ended the day with assists. Coosa outshot Adairsville 17-4 and Eagle goalies Cody Dake and Duke Nguyen had two saves apiece.

LADY EAGLES Coosa 5, Adairsville 1 The Lady  Eagles raised their record to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in Area 6-A/AA with the win. Brandi Justice had the first goal, off a Jessica Phillips assist. Lindsey Davis scored the second goal and Allison Shirey added the third. Phillips scored the fourth goal and Carmen Shirey added the final one. Phillips and Davis had assists, as did Carmen       Shirey and Lindsay Patch. Coosa outshot the Lady Tigers 15-8  and goalie Erika Otwell had seven saves.

LADY EAGLES 3/15/01  Coosa 2, Rockmart 1  Jessica Phillips netted two goals off a P.K. and an assists from Katy Nicholson to beat Rockmart 2-1.  Erica Otwell had 9 saves in goal for the Eagles.

3/22/01  N.W. Whitfield 7, Coosa 4 (OVERTIME)   The Eagles blew a 4-2 lead with 2 minutes left and then gave up 3 more in overtime.  This eliminated Coosa from the Championship round of the Lafayette Invitational Tournament.   Justin Pollard scored 3 goals  and Cory McAdams netted one goal. McAdams had 2 assists and William Navaratte recorded the other two assists.  Cody Dake had 9 saves in goal.

3/24/01 Coosa 4 , Chattooga 0    William Navaratte 3 goals and Jaziel Luna 1 as the Eagles defeated Coosa 4-0.  McAdams had an assist as did John Burton.  Luke Waters had one save and Cody Dake 4.

3/28/01 Coosa 1, Darlington 5   Dusty Cordle had 1 goal and Cory McAdams an assist as Darlington defeated the Eagles 5-1. The score was 2-0 at half but the Eagles fought back and scored in the second half.  Cody Dake had 9 saves while Luke Waters had 6.

4/2/01 Coosa 1, Fort Payne 0   William Navaratte had one goal and Cory McAdams an assist to lead the Eagles past Alabama powerhouse Fort Payne.  Luke Waters had 12 outstanding saves in goal.  Navaratte broke the School season scoring record of 17 which was held by his brother.

4/3/01 Coosa 3, Gordon Central 1  William Navaratte had two goals and Cory McAdams one goal as the Eagles defeated Gordon Central.  Luke Waters had 8 saves.

4/16/01 Coosa 3, Chattooga 0 Luke Waters, John Burton, and Brack Hassell each scored a goal while Cory McAdams had all three assists. McAdams broke the season record for assists with 16.

4/18/01 Coosa 4, Southside 2  William Navaratte had two goals, Cory Mcadams 1 goal and Jaziel Luna one goal as the Eagles defeated Southside 4-2.  Cody Dake had 4 saves and Luke Waters had 9.  John Burton and Jeremy Anthony each had assists.

4/20/01    Coosa 0, Calhoun 9   Cody Dake had 9 saves, Luke Waters 3, and William Navaratte 5 in the Eagles loss to Calhoun

4/23/01    Coosa 6, Woodland 1   Juan Carlos Guzman had 2 goals, William Navaratte 2 goals, Cory McAdams had one goal and Jaziel Luna one goal.  McAdams and John Burton each had an assist.  Waters recorded 8 saves.

4/24/01    Coosa 5, Chattooga 2 William Navaratte had 2 goals, Juan Carlos Guzman had 2 goals and Cory McAdams had 1 goal.  Justin Pollard had 3 assists.  Cody Dake had12 saves and William Navaratte 2 in goal.
