Luke Weeks, a senior at Coosa High School, was selected the system STAR student for Floyd County Schools at a recent Exchange Club luncheon to honor STAR students and teachers. The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce announced STAR student winners for Rome and Floyd County at the Exchange Club luncheon.  High schools throughout Georgia name a STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) student, and the student chooses a STAR teacher to share in this recognition.   

Luke Weeks is a highly decorated senior at Coosa High as he was recently named as a Finalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program and he led his Coosa team to the state finals in the Georgia Academic Decathlon Championship.   Weeks has been the top performer or tied as top performer in the Floyd County Schools Academic Decathlon for the last four years.  Weeks also is the editor-in-chief of the Coosa literary magazine, a member of the National Honor Society and is on the Coosa tennis team.  Weeks selected science teacher Bill Daughtry as his STAR teacher.  Daughtry is also a coach of the Coosa High Academic Decathlon team.
