Jennifer Greer, a math teacher at Model High School, has been selected to serve on Kathy Cox’s Teacher Advisory Council for the second consecutive year.  The State Superintendent of School’s teacher advisory council is a group of about 30 teachers from across Georgia who discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting teachers in Georgia’s classrooms. Members consist of Georgia Teacher of the Year finalists, Milken Award teachers, and other select teachers throughout the state. The teachers meet four times throughout the school year with State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox and are advisors that act as liaisons between the Department of Education and the teachers of Georgia. Past topics discussed by the teacher advisory council include: Georgia Performance Standards, Georgia Performance Standards Training, discipline, teacher mentoring, teacher induction, and parent involvement.

“I really enjoyed getting to work with State Superintendent Kathy Cox,” Greer said.  “She was very focused during our meetings and addressed our concerns and questions very honestly and effectively.  Greer added,” I am thrilled to have this opportunity again, and I welcome other educators to submit items to me that they would like addressed.”

Jennifer Greer is in her 21st year of teaching mathematics.  She has instructed all levels of math at grade levels ranging from seventh grade to senior level. Ms. Greer has also been involved in extra-curricular activities as she has instructed high school aerobics, coached cheerleading, directed dance line, and coached math teams.  She is currently teaching Accelerated Math I, Honor’s Precalculus, Advanced Placement Calculus and Math I support at Model High.

Greer earned her B. S. Degree from Berry College, she has an M. S. from Jacksonville State University, and completed post-master’s work at the University of Georgia in Gifted Education.
