A second teacher has been implicated in an investigation at Model High School of inappropriate behavior with a student.  Daniel Brown, a teacher at Model High School, has been immediately relieved of his duties as an employee of the Floyd County School System for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student.  The school system has notified law enforcement and the Professional Standards Commission and is cooperating fully in an ongoing investigation.

Floyd County Schools takes allegations of this nature very seriously and anyone engaging in inappropriate behavior with a student will meet with very serious consequences.  Floyd County Schools has the safety, security and well-being of our students as a top priority.  Any employee who does not display the same type of commitment to the children we serve will have no place in the Floyd County School System.

In situations involving a student’s well-being, Floyd County Schools will investigate, cooperate with law enforcement and take measures necessary to make sure that the individual is removed from the classroom.  We will also take steps to report these instances to the Professional Standards Commission to make sure that any teacher who does not respect the Code of Ethics for educators are no longer able to teach in any other classroom.  Dr. Lynn Plunkett, superintendent of Floyd County Schools said, “There have been stories in the media in recent months about teachers violating the Code of Ethics being allowed to quietly resign and move on – many times to another school system.  Floyd County Schools will not operate that way. “She added, “We have great teachers in this school system who value our students.  We have no place in Floyd County Schools for those who do not share our commitment to the future of the young people we serve.”

The school system can’t comment further at this time on specifics related to the ongoing investigation.
