The Model High School Girls Cross Country Team won the region 7-AA title last week.  This was the first title for the Lady Blue Devils in Cross Country.  The Model girls will compete in the state competition to be held Saturday in Carrollton.  Model is the only girl’s team in Floyd County to earn a slot at the state Cross Country Meet.  The Model High varsity runners and their placement in the Region Meet were Taylor Phillips (1st), Allison Holliday (7th), Amanda Holliday (22nd), Becky Wilson (36th), Amanda Dees (11th), Bridget Sandy (10th), and Seria Evans (40th).  Kelly Staud coaches the Model High girl’s team with assistance from Troy Fitzpatrick. 

Taylor Phillips of Model is the girl’s region champion in Cross Country.  She won the meet with a time of 22:44.  Second place went to Brittney Mathis of Pepperell.  Brittney also advances to State Meet in the individual competition. Brittnay and Hylton Hamilton of Coosa also advanced to state in individual competition.

For the boys, the Coosa High School boy’s team finished in third place and Pepperell was fourth.  Both the Coosa and Pepperell boy’s teams will advance to state.  The coaches are: Dan Tibbetts for Pepperell; Rick Riorden and Alan Gossett for Coosa.
