Tim Hensley, APR, assistant to the superintendent for Floyd
County Schools, has been selected to lead a national organization
of school public relations professionals and communicators. He
has been elected President-elect of the National School Public
Relations Association (NSPRA.) The NSPRA national office
is located in the Washington, D.C. area. Hensley will
serve one year as President-elect of NSPRA beginning his term
on October 1, 2008. According to the organization’s
by-laws, he will take on the position of President on October
1, 2009 and serve for one year. Hensley was elected to
the position by the organization’s membership from across
the United States and Canada.
Hensley is in
charge of public relations and communications for Floyd County
Schools and has been employed by the school system since 1989. He
earned his professional Accreditation (APR) in public relations
from the Universal Accreditation Board in 2006.
Hensley was previously elected to
a three-year term as Southeast Region Vice President for NSPRA
in 2003. He served on the
school PR organization’s Executive Board from October 1,
2003 until October, 2006. The Southeast region includes;
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and
Tennessee.
Hensley has also held state
leadership positions serving as president of the Georgia School
Public Relations Association (GSPRA), a state chapter of NSPRA
in 1995 and 2003. He was named GSPRA’s
Distinguished Service Award winner in 1998 and won the association’s
Andy Olson Excellence in School Public Relations Award in 2003.
NSPRA is governed by a 12-MEMBER
EXECUTIVE BOARD, which consists
of the president, president elect, vice president for
diversity engagement, vice president at large - superintendent
of schools, vice president at large – school
boards and seven regional vice presidents distributed
geographically as Northeast, Mideast, Southeast, North
Central, South Central, Northwest, and Southwest sections
of the United States, its territories and Canada; and
an executive director.
Since 1935, the National School Public Relations Association
(NSPRA) has been providing school communication training and
services to school leaders throughout the United States, Canada,
and the U.S. Dependent Schools worldwide.
NSPRA's mission is to advance education through responsible
communication. The organization seeks to accomplish that mission
through a variety of diverse services that are provided to
members and to other school leaders. With over 65 years of
experience, NSPRA has a reputation in the field for practical
approaches to solving school district and agency communication
