Armuchee Middle School students are once again the regional
winners for the Floyd County Region in the Georgia Stock Market
Game competition coordinated by the Georgia Council on Economic
Education. Armuchee teams swept the fall and spring editions
of the contest. Bhavik Patel, Tyler Stahl, Easton Ezell,
Greg Johnson and Devin Crowley were the winning team of students
for the fall. Grant McCarley, Amy Davis, Ashton Spears
and Libby Hendrix were the winning team in the spring.
The students participated in the fall Stock Market Game in
Jane Hackney's class. The winning team for the spring was from
Mrs. Mitchell and Mr. McLaughlin class. Teams of students
from across the state competed in regional competitions in
the Stock Market Game. The students and teachers from Armuchee
Middle attended a recognition luncheon at the Georgia Freight
Railroad Depot in Atlanta with 600 other teams from across
the state.
In the Stock Market Game
competition, each team begins with a hypothetical $100,000
to invest in stocks listed on the major exchanges. The students
can buy on margin, sell short and just like real investors
they pay commission fees on each transaction. More
than 25,000 students participate in the Georgia Stock Market
Game each year, with competitions held in the fall and spring.
Since 1972 the mission of the Georgia Council on Economic
Education has been to "help teachers teach economics in the
public and independent schools of Georgia ," which supports
a vision of "students leaving school prepared for their economic
roles as workers, consumers, savers, investors, and citizens
in a globally interdependent world." The Council is supported
by businesses, foundations, and individuals across the state.
Visit the Council's website at www.gcee.org. The Georgia Stock
Market Game is made possible by support from the Atlanta Society
of Financial Analysts, Bank of America, the Georgia Securities
Association, INVESCO, Primerica and the Citigroup Foundation,
and the Foundation for Investor Education, which coordinates
the nationwide Stock Market Game. |
