Melonie Renea Hardy, a senior at Armuchee High School was
named the STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) student
for Floyd County at a special recognition luncheon held on
Friday, March 07, 2008. The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce
and the Exchange Club of Rome honored the STAR students from
Floyd County Schools, Rome City Schools and Darlington at the
Palladium. Miss
Hardy selected Mr. Thomas Moore, band director and teacher of
Advanced Band at Armuchee High, as her STAR teacher. Hardy
and Moore were presented with the STAR honor by Al Hodge, president
of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.
STAR
students earn the recognition based on SAT scores and grade-point-average. One
student is selected from each school. The students then
select their STAR teachers. Other students recognized
at the event for being STAR students for their school included: Jesse
Ethan Cagle, a senior at Coosa High; Christopher Marc Wildes,
a senior at Model High; and Jacob Robert Pilgrim, a senior at
Pepperell High.
The students introduced the teachers
they selected as STAR teachers. Cagle
selected Mr. Donny Pruitt, teacher of Honors Chemistry and Honors
Anatomy at Coosa High; Wildes selected Mrs. Jennifer Greer, AP
Calculus teacher at Model High and Pilgrim selected Mr. Jamey
Alcorn, Gifted World History teacher at Pepperell High.
Melonie Renea Hardy and Mr. Thomas Moore will now represent
Floyd County Schools in the district STAR student competition
to be hosted by the Seven Hills Rotary Club next week. This
is the 50th anniversary of the STAR recognition program. |
