Frank Pinson, Todd Wheeler, David Tucker, Elissa Tucker
and Susan Childers were all honored at the Rome-Floyd Sports
Hall of Fame banquet held Tuesday evening. The event
is held to honor those who have achieved excellence in the
area of athletics in the community and for service to the youth
of Rome and Floyd County.
Frank Pinson, CEO
of the Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy, was
inducted into the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame for Meritorious
Service. Pinson has been a teacher, coach,
and principal in Floyd County Schools. He was recognized
for his 40 years of service with the Rome Relays. He served
for 20 years as director of the Relays.
Todd Wheeler,
coach and teacher at Model High School, was inducted into the
Hall of Fame in the Amateur Athlete category. Wheeler
is a graduate of Pepperell High School where he excelled in track
and football. He was an All-Southeastern Conference football
player at the University of Georgia and played professionally
in the NFL. Wheeler has taught and coached at Pepperell,
Armuchee and Model.
David Tucker, principal at
Model Middle School, and Elissa Tucker, teacher at Model Elementary
School, were honored with 2007 Volunteer Service Awards. The
two were recognized with a Youth Service Award in the area of
youth leadership in the tennis program.
Susan Childers, principal of Cave Spring Elementary School,
was also honored with a 2007 Volunteer Service Award. Childers
was a winner in the Youth Services category. |
