The Floyd County Board of Education has approved first reading of a new graduation rule for students beginning with next fall’s incoming freshman class.  The new graduation requirements were necessary due to the State Board of Education’s adoption of new state graduation requirements.  The new requirements will be on the table for one month for discussion and will be considered for final approval at the April 8, 2008 Board of Education meeting.

Public meetings to discuss the new requirements with parents and students will be held in each high school district. The meetings are schedule for:

Coosa Area
Coosa High School auditorium
Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

Pepperell Area
Pepperell High auditorium
Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.


Armuchee Area
Armuchee High auditorium
Monday, March 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

Model Area
Model Middle gym
Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

All interested parents and community members are encouraged to attend the meetings.  Dr. Lynn Plunkett, interim superintendent for Floyd County Schools, will outline the new graduation requirements and answer questions. The new requirements are outlined in the new graduation rule available on the Floyd County Schools’ website.  The website also has an outline of courses by grade level and the PowerPoint presentation that will be used for the community meetings.
