The Metals Program at Floyd County Technical High School
has earned Industry Certification from the Construction Education
Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA), Kevin Ward, a representative
of CEFGA, presented a banner and plaque honoring the programs
accomplishment at the January Floyd County Board of Education
meeting held on January 15, 2008. Chesley Chambers III,
Instructor of the Metals Program at FCTH, accepted the items
commemorating the programs efforts to earn certification. Chambers
was joined by Bo Bragg, principal of FCTH and by Frank Pinson,
CEO of the Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy. FCTH
will become the College and Career Academy when the charter
program opens in the fall.
CEFGA Program Accreditation
is a voluntary evaluation and improvement process for schools
that teach construction in Georgia. CEFGA, the official accrediting
organization for the Georgia Department of Education, manages
the accreditation process through the use of Evaluation Team
Leaders (ETLs), industry volunteers and construction teachers.
High school programs are evaluated on organization and administration;
learning resources; instructors; students; facilities and services;
and industry involvement. The
CEFGA Evaluation Committee validated the accreditation for Floyd
County Technical High School’s Metals program through a
vote of the members completed on May 29, 2007. This award, recognized
by the construction industry, the National Center for Construction
Education Research, and the Georgia Department of Education,
represents extraordinary achievement in providing training in
the construction field.
As a recipient of CEFGA Accreditation, the Floyd County Technical
High Metals program is publicly recognized for attaining construction
industry training standards. Students that complete the
program’s instructional modules are eligible for training
recognition through the National Center for Construction Education
and Research (NCCER) National Registry. Transcripts,
available from the NCCER, can be used to verify proficiency
toward NCCER training objectives, to accompany employment applications,
and to receive credit toward continued industry training after
employment.
CEFGA is a nonprofit organization dedicated
to promoting careers in construction and addressing the industry’s
labor shortage.
