Floyd County Schools' students, faculty and community surpassed
all expectations with another monumental effort in this year's
11 Alive Salvation Army Can-a-Thon. Students, faculty
and parents of the schools delivered over 184,800 cans to the
Salvation Army collection drop at the Rome Forum. This
was the largest total of cans ever collected by students in
the school system as the school community exceeded last year’s
total by over 61,800 cans. The total of can goods collected
from Floyd County Schools was more than the total of the other
three Can-a-thon collection points across the state combined. The
Forum location was the Can-a-thon drop point with the most
donations with a total of 234,360 items of food. Students
also worked as volunteers to help the Salvation Army unload
and separate the cans of food in the Forum parking lot.
Model Middle School set a new record for donations with over
63,000 cans. Perennial state leader, Pepperell Middle
School, once again broke their school record for can good collection
with over 53,000 cans. Each student, parent and faculty
member can be proud of this effort to help provide needed food
for families over the holidays.
