Coosa High School students representing the Technology Student Association (TSA) will mark the Coosa group’s eleventh straight appearance in the GHSA semi-final football playoffs this weekend in the Georgia Dome. Thursday through Saturday, December 6 - 8, the students will be participating in a work-based learning program working with Georgia Public Broadcasting crew members during the live broadcast of the GHSA semi-final football playoff games. Ten games total, five Friday and five Saturday, will be played during the long playoff weekend.  The student crew will start each day at 9 a.m. learning to operate the high end zone camera, the parabolic sideline mikes, and serving as grips for the long sideline camera cables. Thursday the crew will receive hands on training by the TV crews at the Dome as they set-up the equipment for the games.

Tom Vardase, Prep Sports + and Executive Producer and President of BESTT Inc., (Business, Education Sports Television Teams), always makes sure the students are a part of the broadcast and that they learn proper broadcasting techniques. The hands-on-training the students receive is an invaluable learning experience for their future.  Doug Furce of ProTV, Co- Producer of the broadcast encourages the students to not only learn about TV broadcasting, but learn how to apply the skills they learn at the Dome to any job or career. Reading, writing, problem solving, and the importance of math and science are emphasized to student participants. Video engineers relate to the students the importance of math and science to the job they perform each day.

Several students will also join GPB on the road next weekend as they help to broadcast the AAAA State Championship Game on Friday, December 14 and the AAAAA State Championship Game on Saturday, December 15. The broadcast for the games from the Georgia Dome and the championship games can be viewed locally on GPB channels and on Comcast Channel 8.

Students from Coosa High participating in the broadcast this year include: Megan Hembree, Mayra Hernandez, Ryan Jones, Michael Laird, Mia McClusky, Erika Mitchell, Chelsea Poellntiz, Eduardo Vasquez, and Ashley Ward.
